The 10 Commandments and the Egyptian Book of the

Dead

The narrator also claims that “the 10 Commandments are taken right from out of the Egyptian Book of the Dead.” However, he acknowledges that the law phrases are not identical.

From a Christian worldview, it is not very surprising that many ancient cultures adhered to similar moral law code systems. The apostle Paul writes:

When Gentiles, who do not possess the law, do instinctively what the law requires, these, though not having the law, are a law to themselves. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, to which their own conscience bears witness…” (Romans 2:14-15, NRSV).

In other words, according to Paul, God has applied a universal moral Law to the hearts of Gentiles, or non-Jews, implying that all humans deep down have a common concept of what is morally right and what is morally wrong.

Indeed, many cultures today share certain moral norms, although many people willingly suppress what they know is morally correct. I highly recommend the book, What We Can’t Not Know A Guide (2003), written by J. Budziszewski if the reader wishes to gain a better understanding of this phenomenon.
